Making a Jumping Game in Scratch @RRIS

Posted by on 28/02/2022

This week the Digital Leaders started their jumping game using the coding programme Scratch. Last week we explored the programme so that we knew where all the functions were which made it easier for us to get started straight away. We are following a video tutorial made by Scratch which is accessible on Youtube here (if you are doing this at home, please make sure an adult is with you for your safety when using Youtube.) If you would like to try using Scratch at home you will need to ask an adult to make an online Scratch log in so you can save your projects or you can download a free desktop version here.

We will be building the game in 5 sessions – this week we chose our sprite and backdrop and learnt how to make our sprite jump and make a sound. The code that we used is in the pictures below and we will add to the code each week.

“It was really easy to drag and drop the blocks and they click together a bit like a jigsaw. Some of the code allows other bits of code to fit inside it, like the repeat blocks.”

“It is good that the blocks are colour coded so they are easier to find.”

“Choosing and adding the sound was a bit difficult, that might be the part that some people might need help with.”

You can choose your own sound when your sprite jumps
